About Alaska’s Wildlife Artist: David Totten

About David Totten & Wildlife North Art Gallery

David Totten, Alaska ArtistWildlife artist David Totten creates portraits of Alaska’s mammals & birds that are rich in contrast and uniquely realistic in content. His works have a 3-dimensional vitality which invites viewers to join him in his love of nature.

Totten received a B. A. degree from California State University at Los Angeles, and an M.S. degree in Geosciences from the University of Arizona. He has been an engineer, consulting geologist, and a college professor but in 1991 returned to his life-long love of painting to become a full-time artist.

His pastel paintings of wildlife have since received wide recognition for their unique detail, depth, and use of vivid colors. Totten often used his own recreational team of sled dogs as models for his well-known “sled dog art.” He has been awarded numerous placements in the prestigious “Art Show at the Dog Show” competitions, and was selected to paint three official prints of the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race.
